மூட நம்பிக்கையால் ஏற்பட்ட வினை; மருத்துவமின்றி 8 வயது சிறுமி மரணம்

பலி கொடுத்தல், பேய் விரட்டல், நூல் கட்டுதல் போன்ற மூட நம்பிக்கைகளுடனான முறைகளைக் கையாண்டதாகக் கூறும் பெற்றோர் தனது எட்டு வயதுச் சிறுமியை இழந்த சம்பவமொன்று மாத்தளை பிட்டகந்த பகுதியில் இடம்பெற்றுள்ளது.
தொடர்ந்து மூன்று நாட்களாகக் காய்ச்சல், சிறுநீர் கழிக்க முடியாமை போன்ற நோயினால் அவதியுற்ற எட்டு வயதுச் சிறுமிக்கு உரிய வைத்தியம் செய்யாமல் கோழி பலி கொடுத்தல், நூல் போடுதல், சாமி ஆட்டம் போன்ற வைத்தியங்களை மேற்கொண்ட பின் உடல்நிலை மேலும் மோசமடையவே சிறுமியை மாத்தளை ஆதார வைத்தியசாலையில் அனுமதித்து சற்று நேரத்தில் சிறுமியின் உயிர் பிரிந்ததாக சாட்சியங்களில் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.
உரிய வைத்தியம் செய்வதற்குப் பெற்றோர் முயற்சி செய்யாத காரணத்தாலும் அவர்களின் அறியாமையினாலும் ஒரு சிறுமியின் உயிரைக் காப்பாற்ற முடியாமற் போயிருப்பது ஓர் துரதிர்ஷ்ட நிகழ்வு என மரண விசாரணைகளை மேற்கொண்ட மாத்தளை மாநகர திடீர் மரண விசாரணை அதிகாரி எம்.ஜி. ஜயதிலக கூறினார்.
சிறுமியின் தந்தையான பி.ஜி. திலகரத்னவும் சாட்சியமளித்தார். மாத்தளை சட்ட வைத்திய அதிகாரி றசிக்க திசாநாயக்க பிரேதப் பரிசோதனைகளை மேற்கொண்ட பின் சிறுமிக்கு உடலில் நீர் இன்மையால் ஏற்பட்ட நோய் காரணமாக மரணம் ஏற்பட்டிருப்பதாக தெரிவித்தார்.

உரிய வைத்தியம் செய்வதற்குப் பெற்றோர் முயற்சி செய்யாத காரணத்தாலும் அவர்களின் அறியாமையினாலும் ஒரு சிறுமியின் உயிரைக் காப்பாற்ற முடியாமற் போயிருப்பது ஓர் துரதிர்ஷ்ட நிகழ்வு என மரண விசாரணைகளை மேற்கொண்ட மாத்தளை மாநகர திடீர் மரண விசாரணை அதிகாரி எம்.ஜி. ஜயதிலக கூறினார்.
சிறுமியின் தந்தையான பி.ஜி. திலகரத்னவும் சாட்சியமளித்தார். மாத்தளை சட்ட வைத்திய அதிகாரி றசிக்க திசாநாயக்க பிரேதப் பரிசோதனைகளை மேற்கொண்ட பின் சிறுமிக்கு உடலில் நீர் இன்மையால் ஏற்பட்ட நோய் காரணமாக மரணம் ஏற்பட்டிருப்பதாக தெரிவித்தார்.

சென்னை, டிச. 25: நடிகை மாளவிகாவின் திருமண நிச்சயதார்த்தம் மும்பையில் ரகசியமாக நடந்துள்ளது.

இதற்கு இரு வீட்டாரும் சம்மதம் தெரிவித்ததும், கடந்த மாதம் 23&ம் தேதி நிச்சயதார்த்தம் நடந்துள்ளது. இதை மாளவிகா மறைத்து வந்தார்.
இந்த நிலையில் நேற்று நிச்சயதார்த்த படங்கள் வெளியாகின. இது குறித்து நேற்று காலை மாளவிகாவிடம் கேட்டபோது, மறுத்தார்.
உடனே அந்த படங்கள் அவருக்கு அனுப்பி வைக்கப்பட்டன. அதை பார்த்ததும் நிச்சயதார்த்தம் நடந்ததை ஒப்புக் கொண்டார். Ôதிருமண தேதி முடிவாகவில்லை. திருமணத்துக்குப் பிறகு தொடர்ந்து நடிப்பேன்Õஎன்றார் மாளவிகா.

மூன்று நண்பர்கள் பரீட்சை எழுதினர். கடைசியில் இருந்த மாணவன் தனக்கு முன்னாள் உள்ள நண்பனை பார்த்து எழுதினான்.தேர்வு முடிவில் ஒன்றாவது மற்றும் மூன்றாவது மாணவர் கள் தேர்ச்சி அடைந்தும், இரண் டாவது இருந்த மாணவன் தேர்ச்சி அடையவில்லை.எப்படி என்று கேள்வி எழுப்பு கையில், முதலில் மற்றும் மூன்றாவது இருந்தவர்களுக்கு கொடுக்கப்பட்ட தலைப்பு தீபாவளியை பற்றி. ஆனால் இரண்டாவது இருந்த மாணவனுக்கு கொடுக்கப்பட்ட தலைப்போ பொங்கல்.

சென்னையில் நடந்த விஜய் டிவி திரை விருது வழங்கும் நிகழ்ச்சியில் நடிகர் கமல்ஹாசனுக்கு செவாலியே சிவாஜி கணேசன் விருது வழங்கப்பட்டது.
விஜய் டிவி சார்பில் தமிழகம் முழுவதும் பொதுமக்களிடம் நேரில் கருத்துக் கணிப்பு நடத்தி அதன் மூலம் சிறந்த திரைக் கலைஞர்களுக்கு விருது வழங்கத் தீர்மானிக்கப்பட்டது.

வேலை தேடி வீட்டுப் பணிப் பெண்ணாக சவுதி அரேபியாவுக்குச் சென்ற பெண்ணொருவர் சுயநினைவு இழந்த நிலையில் நோயாளர் கட்டிலில் இலங்கை திரும்பிய பரிதாபமிக்க சம்பவமொன்று ராகமையில் இடம்பெற்றுள்ளது.
ராகமை, கெந்தலியத்தபாலுவ பகுதியைச் சேர்ந்த ஜயமாலி ரணசிங்க (வயது- 41) என்பவரே இவ்வாறு பரிதாபமிக்க நிலையில் கடந்த அக்டோபர் மாதம் நாடு திரும்பியுள்ளார். தனது 28 வயதில் முதன் முறையாக வெளிநாட்டு வேலை வாய்ப்பு பெற்று சென்ற இவர் இறுதியாக கடந்த 2005 ஆம் ஆண்டு ஜூன் மாதம் 15 ஆம் திகதி கொழும்பிலுள்ள வெளிநாட்டு முகவர் நிலையமொன்றின் ஊடாக சவுதி அரேபியாவுக்கு வீட்டுப் பணிப்பெண்ணாக வேலை வாய்ப்பு பெற்றுச் சென்றுள்ளார்.
இதேவேளை, தான் வேலைக்குச் சென்ற வீட்டில் உள்ளவர்கள் இரக்கமற்றவர்களெனவும் அவர்களால் தனக்கு தொடர்ந்தும் துன்புறுத்தல்கள் ஏற்படுவதாகவும் வேலைக்குச் சென்ற ஆரம்ப காலத்திலேயே அவர் தனது உறவினர்களுக்கு கடிதம் மூலம் தெரியப்படுத்தியுள்ளார்.
அத்துடன், தான் இருக்கும் வீட்டில் பிரச்சினை அதிகமெனவும் மனிதப் பண்பு என்பது இவர்களிடத்தில் சொற்பமேனும் இல்லையெனவும் குறித்த பெண்மணி தனது தாய்க்கு இறுதியாக எழுதிய கடிதத்தில் தெரிவித்துள்ளதுடன் விரைவில் நாடு திரும்பப் போவதாகவும் அதில் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார்.
இதையடுத்து, பெண்மணியின் குடும்பத்தினர் அவரை நாட்டிற்கு திருப்பி எடுக்கும் முகமாக முகவர் நிலையத்தினூடு முயற்சிகள் மேற்கொண்ட போதும் அது பலனளிக்காமல் போயுள்ளது.
இறுதியாக வெளிநாட்டு வேலைவாய்ப்புப் பணியகத்திற்கு முறைப்பாடு செய்து தூதுவராலயத்தின் ஊடாக இது தொடர்பாக ஆராய்ந்தபோது அவர் கடுமையாக பாதிக்கப்பட்டு அந்நாட்டு வைத்தியசாலையில் சிகிச்சை பெற்று வருவது உறவினர்களுக்கு தெரியவந்துள்ளது.
பல மாதங்களாக வைத்தியசாலையில் இருந்து வந்த அவரை அந்நாட்டின் செஞ்சிலுவைக் குழுவினரே வைத்தியசாலையில் அனுமதித்ததாகவும் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. விஷமருந்தி வீதியில் விழுந்து கிடந்தபோதே அவர் வைத்தியசாலைக்கு ஒப்படைக்கப்பட்டதாக செஞ்சிலுவைக் குழுவினர் தெரிவித்திருக்கின்றனர்.
வைத்தியசாலையில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டது முதலே சுயநினைவிழந்திருந்த குறித்த பெண்மணி விஷம் அருந்தினாரா அல்லது அவருக்கு விஷம் ஊட்டப்பட்டதா என்பது குறித்து அறிய வழிகள் எதுவும் இல்லை. எவ்வாறிருப்பினும் அவரது உடம்பில் எரிகாயங்கள் இருக்கக் காணப்படுவதாகவும் பற்கள் சில உடைக்கப்பட்டிருப்பதாகவும் உறவினர்கள் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர். இதன் மூலம் இப்பெண்மணி கடுமையான துன்புறுத்தலுக்கு உள்ளாக்கப்பட்டிருப்பது தெரியவந்தாகவும் அவர்கள் கூறியுள்ளனர்.
இதேவேளை, இவரை இங்குள்ள வைத்தியசாலையில் அனுமதித்து சிகிச்சை பெற உறவினர்கள் முயற்சித்தபோதும் குணப்படுத்துவது கஷ்டமென வைத்தியர்கள் தெரிவித்துவிட்டனர். ராகமையில் தனது சகோதரர் வீட்டில் தங்கியிருக்கும் இப்பெண்மணிக்கு உணவுகள் அனைத்தும் குழாய்கள் மூலமாகவே வழங்கப்படுகின்றன.
நடந்தது என்னவென்று அறிய உறவினர்கள் பல வழிகளில் முயன்று அது பலனளிக்காத நிலையில் நட்டஈட்டுத் தொகையைக் கூட அவர்களால் பெற்றுக் கொள்ள முடியவில்லை.

Karuna cadres suspected of abducting Ravindranath

The talk of Batticaloa town is that the Eastern University Vice Chancellor S. Ravinthranath was abducted by the Karuna faction in Colombo last Friday. Though the CID, probing the abduction, suspected the LTTE, it is believed the Vice Chancellor, who is from Jaffna, but served in Batticaloa for more than 30 years, was abducted by the Karuna faction in an apparent bid to rid the East of Jaffna academics. Before the abduction of the Vice Chancellor, eight academics who served in the Eastern University, were either abducted or threatened and all of them fled to Jaffna overnight. Kandyans urged for three federal states in 1928 and 1948

(LeN-2006 Dec 21, 1.00pm - Feature) After years of colonial rule, when Sri Lanka was on the way to constitutional reform, the Donoughmore Commission was set up by the British Government in 1928 and several representations were made to the Donoughmore Commission. The most liberal and far-sighted memorandum was sent to the Commissioners by the Kandyan leaders at that time.
They pointed out to the Commissioners that for nearly hundreds of years before the coming of the Portuguese, Sri Lanka was divided into three Kingdoms of Ruhunu, Maya and Pihiti and if the British were to depart at a particular time, they should create three self-government areas comprising:
1. The Northern and Eastern provinces in which the Tamils predominate
2. The Kandyan provinces
3. The Southern and Western provinces peopled mainly by low-country Sinhalese.
Granted
Each of these three communities would thus be granted a government of its own, the Kandyans would preserve their national identity and would no longer be in danger of being sacrificed to the pressure from the South and North. For purposes affecting the welfare of the entire island, these three governments would be united in a federal government, thus ensuring that no one section would be in a position to dominate the others.
It is our duty to mention at this moment, the names of the delegates who represented the Kandyan community at that time. They were: J.H. Meedeniya Adigar (Leader), B.B. Nugawela Dissawa, J.C. Ratwatte Dissawa, T.B. Panabokka, J.A. Halangoda, A. Godamunne, A.W. Mediwaka, U.B. Dolapihilla, N.B. Galagoda, L.B. Girihagama, W. Talgodapitiya, T.B.L. Moonemalle, G.E. Madawala, F.D. Dissanayake, K.B. Beddewala, Roland Tennekoon, A.T.W. Marambe, Dr. T.B. Kobbekaduwa, P.B. Dolaphilla and W. Gopallawa.
They suggested that a federal form of government should be formed in Sri Lanka with the centre holding such important issues like foreign policy, defence and other key issues that they feel should be kept with the centre. This point of view was strongly urged by the Kandyan leaders, but the Commissioners rejected the memorandum of the Kandyan leaders.
Just before independence in 1948, the Soulbury Commission came to Sri Lanka. The Kandyan leaders made a similar claim of the creation of three self-governing Federal Regional Councils, but this request too was turned down. In retrospect, if this was done and if devolution was granted at the point of independence, like in India, we would not face the present unfortunate situation in our country.
The Commissioners held "The arguments of the Kandyan leaders were compelling and historically accurate". However due to pressure from Western Educated Colombo leaders who did not want to share power the Commissioners rejected the memorandum of the Kandyan leaders.
Period
The 1947-1948 period was the best hour for devolution as there was extreme cordiality between all communities in Sri Lanka and a strong mediator in Britain.
The representatives to the Soulbury Commission were: M.B. Panabokke, B.H. Aluwihare, P. Dolapihilla, H.K. Keerthiratne, V.C. Udalagama, H. Ratwatte, Halangoda, H.W. Mediwake, A.E. Illukkumbura, J.A. Dhanapala, G.C. Leelaratne, U.B. Kulatunga, H.B. Kirimetiyawa, Rajakaruna Vedamahathmaya, H. Sunderasekera.
Though the Kandyan demand for self-government has died down, the Tamil demand persisted, resulting in the unfortunate situation in our country.
If power was devolved like in India at the point of independence the situation in this country would have been totally different. The Kandyan leaders were called backward and living in the past, but in retrospect if the suggestions of the Kandyan leaders were accepted the unfortunate situation in this country would have been totally avoided. They were the first leaders in Sri Lanka to speak of devolution openly, keeping in mind the historical kingdoms that existed before the coming of the colonial rulers. They were futuristic and far ahead of their time in thinking.
Indian experience
After years of colonial rule, in 1947, when India was granted independence, a new constitution was drafted. The patriotic Indian rulers who were poised to be rulers of that country after independence were conscious of the historic diversity that existed before the coming of the British. They realised that once the British departed, unless power was shared by the centre with periphery, the old feuds, difference between the old kingdoms would once again surface. New Indian states were created more or less out of the ancient kingdoms and devolved a great deal of autonomy to these states. The centre keeping foreign affairs and defence brought policy and other key issues.
For example, though the national language of India is Hindi, the respective states were granted the liberty to use their own languages in the day-to-day affairs of the respective states. Imagine what would be the situation if Indian rulers tried to force Hindi on all the states of the Indian Union. The situation would have been chaotic. So today after 50 years of Indian independence we have a situation where persons from Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, West Bengalore proud to call themselves Indian first with a strong sense of Indian identity. The cultural, religious and language rights are safeguarded in the respective states. At the same time they consider themselves a part of a great Indian nation.
Rulers at the point of independence were generous enough to share power with the respective states rather than attempt to keep all the power selfishly in Delhi. If this was not done, there would have been friction within a short time after independence which would have led to the disintegration of the Indian Union.
Sri Lankan experience
When the Portuguese came to Sri Lanka in 1505, the situation in Ceylon was very similar to the situation in India when the British arrived there. Just like India, in Sri Lanka too there were several kingdoms. Dr. (Mrs.) Lorna Devaraja who is a well-known historian, in her book "The Kandyan Kingdom", mentions that when the Portuguese first came to Sri Lanka in the beginning of the 16th century there were three kingdoms of varying politics and economic importance in the island. Foremost was the kingdom of Kotte occupying the west and the south west of the island, whose king claimed a nominal overlordship over the whole of Sri Lanka.
A separate dynasty was ruling in Kandy having broken away from the authority of the Kotte King. The founder of this dynasty was, according to tradition, Senasammata Vikramabahu who ruled from C. 1474-1311. Ever since the middle of the thirteenth century there had also been an independent Tamil king in Jaffna. This view was supported by all leading historians.
So in Sri Lanka like in India there were basically three kingdoms when the Portuguese came. The Mahawamsa confirms this position by stating that from ancient times, Sri Lanka was divided into three kingdoms Ruhunu, Maya and Pihiti. Three treaties were signed by the respective rulers of these kingdoms with the foreign invaders. There was the Nallur convention by which King Sangili ceded the kingdom of Jaffna to the Portuguese.
Then there was a Malwana convention whereby the low country were ceded to the Dutch. Then finally, the convention by which the Kandyan territory was ceded to the British. Further proof of the existence of the three kingdoms is again a system of laws prevailing in the three regions.
In Jaffna the Thesa Walamai Law operates. In the low country the Roman Dutch Law operates and in the Kandyan areas Kandyan Law operates. So it is well established that in Sri Lanka, there were three kingdoms for a very long period of time confirmed by the three treaties and also the three personal laws applicable to the respective areas. It is on this basis that the Kandyan leaders made their observations in 1928 and 1947.
If devolution of power was done at independence Sri Lanka would have been spared the present crisis.
Genuine devolution is 50 years late.

கரூர்: மேட்டுப்பாளையத்தைச் சேர்ந்த கோபால் என்பவர் பல்வேறு சர்க்கஸ் வித்தைகளை செய்து வாழ்க்கை நடத்தி வருகிறார். பள்ளிக்கே செல்லாத கோபால், ஒரு சர்க்கஸ் கம்பெனியில் சேர்ந்தார். அதன் மூலம் கிடைத்த வருமானத்தை வைத்து ஒரு மளிகை கடை வைத்தார். போணி ஆகிவில்லை. இதனால் தான் சர்க்கசில் கற்ற வித்தைகளை காண்பித்து வருமானம் ஈட்ட துவங்கினார்.

மேலூர்: இரண்டு நாட்களாக உயிருக்கு ஆபத்தான நிலையில் கிடந்து, இறந்த பெண், இறுதிச்சடங்கு ஏற்பாடுகள் நடந்த போது உயிருடன் மீண்டார். தற்போது முன்பை விட ஆரோக்கியத்துடன் அவர் உலா வந்து கொண்டுள்ளார்.
மேலூர் அருகே ஆட்டுக்குளம் ஊராட்சியிலுள்ள உலகநாதபுரம் காலனியில் வசிப்பவர் அழகர் மனைவி வன்னி(44). இவருக்கு பேச்சி,முத்துராக்கு மற்றும் 2 மகள்களும், ஒரு மகனும் உள்ளனர். இதில் பேச்சி, முத்துராக்கு ஆகியோருக்கு திருமணம் ஆகிவிட்டது.மற்ற 2 மகள்களும், மகனும் செங்கல் சூளையில் கூலி வேலை செய்து வருகின்றனர். சில வருடங்களுக்கு முன்பு வன்னிக்கு அம்மை நோய் தாக்கியுள்ளது. அதிலிருந்து அவர் உடல்நலம் பாதிக்கப்பட்டு, அடிக்கடி நோய்வாய்ப்பட்டே இருந்து வந்துள்ளார்.
கடந்த 3 நாட்களுக்கு முன்பு வன்னியின் உடல்நிலை மோசமானது. தொண்டைக்கும் நெஞ்சுக்கும் இழுத்துக் கொண்டே இருந்துள்ளது. உறவினர்கள் இனி வன்னி பிழைக்க மாட்டார் என்றும், துளசி மற்றும் நல்லெண்ணையை கலந்து கொடுத்தால் இழுப்பது நின்று உயிர் பிரிந்து விடும் என்றும் கூறியுள்ளனர். இதன்படி கொடுக்கவே, உயிர் பிரிந்தது.வன்னி இறந்த தகவல் உறவினர்களுக்கு தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டது. பலர் மாலைகள் மற்றும் சேலையுடன் சாவுக்கு வந்தவண்ணம் இருந்தனர். பின்னர், பிணத்தை குளிப்பாட்ட முடிவு செய்து வன்னி மீது தண்ணீரை ஊற்றினர். தண்ணீர் மேலே பட்டவுடன், வன்னி கண்கள் இரண்டையும் திறந்து பார்த்துள்ளார்.

இது குறித்து டாக்டர் கணேசன் கூறுகையில், என்னிடம் வன்னியை தூக்கி வந்த போது அவருக்கு நாடித் துடிப்பு குறைவாக இருந்தது. மூளையில் பாதிப்பு இருந்ததும் தெரிய வந்தது. மிகவும் அபாய நிலையில் இருந்த அவருக்கு தீவிர சிகிச்சை அளிக்கப்பட்டது. கொஞ்சம் தாமதமாக கொண்டு வந்திருந்தாலும் அவர் இறந்து இருப்பார். இவருக்கு டி.பி., நோய் இருப்பதால், அது மூளையை பாதித்து கோமா நிலைக்கு சென்று பின்னர் மீண்டுள்ளார். மருத்துவ துறையில் ஆயிரத்தில் ஒரு கேஸ் இவ்வாறு இருப்பது உண்டு என்றார். மாண்டவர் மீண்டது இக்கிராம மக்களிடையே ஆச்சரியத்தை ஏற்படுத்தி உள்ளது.

சுமார் 68 நாட்களாக புலிகள் இயக்கப் பயங்கரவாதிகளால் விலங்கிடப்பட்டுத் தடுத்து வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த இராணுவ வீரர் கே.எம்.எஸ். ரத்நாயக்க கடந்த 13 ஆம் திகதி புலிகள் இயக்க முகாம் ஒன்றிலுள்ள சிறையிலிருந்து விடுதலை செய்யப்பட்டார். புலிகள் இயக்கத்தினருக்கும் கருணா குழுவினருக்கும் இடையே நடந்த மோதல்களின் போது காயங்களுக்குள்ளான இந்த இராணுவ வீரர் பின்னர் பொலன்னறுவை வைத்தியசாலையில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டார்.
மேற்படி இராணுவ வீரர் ரத்நாயக்கவை புலிகள் இயக்கத்தினர் கடந்த ஒக்டோபர் மாதம் 6 ஆம் திகதி பிடித்தனர். இது நிகழ்ந்தது சம்பூருக்கு அருகிலுள்ள மாங்கேணி பிரதேசத்தில் புலிகள் இயக்கத்தினருக்கு எதிராக அரச படையினர் மேற்கொண்ட தாக்குதல்களின் போதாகும். அன்று இராணுவ மேஜர் ஒருவர் உட்பட 11 இராணுவத்தினர் புலிகள் இயக்கத்தினரின் தாக்குதல்களில் உயிரிழந்தனர். அப்போது இராணுவ வீரர் ரத்நாயக்க காயங்களுக்குள்ளாகியிருந்த நிலையில் புலிகள் இயக்கத்தினர் அவரைக் கைது செய்தனர்.
இதேவேளை வாகரைப் பிரதேசத்தில் புலிகள் இயக்கத்தினர் சுமார் 35 பொது மக்களை மனித கேடயமாகப் பயன்படுத்தி சேருநுவர, கஜுவத்த, மாங்கேணி ஆகிய கிராமங்களுக்கு ஆட்டிலறி, மோட்டார் தாக்குதல்களை ஆரம்பித்தனர். இந்தச் சந்தர்ப்பங்களில் அரச படையினரும் வாகரைப் பிரதேசத்திலுள்ள புலிகள் இயக்கத்தினருக்கு எதிராக விசேட தாக்குதல் நடவடிக்கைகளை ஆரம்பித்தனர். புலிகள் இயக்கத்தினரால் பணயக்கைதிகளாகப் பிடித்து வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த பொது மக்களை விடுவிப்பதற்காகவே படையினர் மேற்படி விசேட அதிரடித் தாக்குதல்களை ஆரம்பித்திருந்தனர். இந்தச் சந்தர்ப்பங்களில் முன்னர் கைது செய்யப்பட்ட இராணுவ வீரர் ரத்நாயக்க புலிகள் இயக்கத்தினரின் பாதுகாப்பிலேயே இருந்துள்ளார்.
இதேவேளை, கடந்த 13 ஆம் திகதி கருணா குழுவினருக்குக் கிடைத்த உளவுத் தகவல்களுக்கேற்ப, அரச படையினர் அடிக்கடி வாகரையில் மேற்கொண்டு வந்த தீவிர தாக்குதல்கள் காரணமாக புலிகள் இயக்கத்தினர் மியான்குளம் பகுதியிலிருந்து தொப்பிகல பகுதிக்கு வந்துகொண்டிருப்பதாக அறிந்து கொண்டனர்.
இவ்வாறு மியான்குளத்திலிருந்து வந்து கொண்டிருந்த புலிகள் இயக்கத்தினர் மட்டக்களப்பு- பொலனறுவை வீதி ஊடாகவே கடந்து தொப்பிகலவுக்குச் செல்ல வேண்டும். எனவே, குறித்த உளவுத் தகவல்களைத் தொடர்ந்து கருணா குழுவினர் புலிகள் மீது தாக்குதலைத் தொடுப்பதற்காக மட்டக்களப்பு - பொலன்னறுவ பிரதான வீதியில் 117 ஆம், 118 ஆம் மைல் கல் பகுதிகளுக்கிடையே தயாராக நின்றனர். அன்று இரவு சுமார் 8.45 க்கும் 9 மணிக்கு இடையேயுள்ள வேளை அந்தப் பிரதேசமே நிசப்தமாக இருந்தது. பாரிய மரங்கள், கட்டடங்கள் இல்லாத அந்த வீதியில் சிறிய மரங்களும் புல்லுப் பற்றைகளும் மட்டுமே இருந்தன.
புலிகள் இயக்கப் பயங்கரவாதிகள் அந்த வீதியில் வந்து கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். அவர்களில் சுமார் 150 பயங்கரவாதிகள் இருந்தனர். கருணா குழுவினர் உடனடியாக அவர்கள் மீது அதிரடியாக கடுமையான சூட்டுத் தாக்குதல்களைத் தீவிரமாகத் தொடுத்தனர். இவ்வாறு கருணா குழுவினர் தாக்கிய வேளையில் புலிகள் இயக்கத்தினருடன் இராணுவ வீரர் ரத்நாயக்கவும் இருந்தார். அவர் கைகள் கட்டப்பட்ட நிலையில் கூட்டி வரப்பட்டிருந்தார். அவருடைய திசையிலும் கருணா குழுவினர் தீவிரமான சூட்டுத் தாக்குதலை நடத்திய போது, ரத்நாயக்க உடனடியாக "நான் இராணுவ ஆள் சுட வேண்டாம்" என்று பலமாகக் கத்தினார். தாக்குதல்களின் மத்தியில் அதைக் கேட்டு உடனே எச்சரிக்கையடைந்த கருணா குழுவினர், ரத்நாயக்கவை இராணுவ வீரர் என அடையாளம் கண்டு உடனே அவரைத் தமது பொறுப்பில் எடுத்துக் கொண்டனர். ஆயினும் இந்த வேளையில் ரத்நாயக்க கடும் காயங்களுக்குள்ளாகியிருந்தார். இதன் காரணமாகவே அவரை கருணா குழுவினர் மாங்கேணி இராணுவ முகாமில் ஒப்படைக்க நடவடிக்கை எடுத்தனர். இவ்வாறு இராணுவத்திடம் ஒப்படைக்கப்பட்ட ரத்நாயக்க பின்னர் பொலன்னறுவ வைத்தியசாலையில் சேர்க்கப்பட்டார்.
இவ்வாறு கருணா குழுவினர் மேற்கொண்ட தாக்குதல்களின் போது கொல்லப்பட்ட ஏழு புலிகள் இயக்கத்தினரது சடலங்களையும் கருணா குழுவினர் பொலன்னறுவ வைத்தியசாலையில் ஒப்படைத்துள்ளனர். இந்தத் தாக்குதல்களில் புலிகள் இயக்கத்தினரிடமிருந்து ரீ.56 ரக துப்பாக்கிகள் உட்பட பெருந்தொகையான ஆயுதங்களை கருணா குழுவினர் கைப்பற்றியுள்ளனர்.
மேலும், இத் தாக்குதல்களின் போது புலிகள் இயக்கத்தினர் வாகரை தமிழ் மகா வித்தியாலயத்திலிருந்து மல்ரி பரல், பீரங்கிகளைப் பயன்படுத்தித் தாக்குதல் நடத்தியுள்ளதாகவும் கருணா குழுவினர் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர். இவ்வாறு கடந்த 13 ஆம் திகதி கருணா குழுவினர் மேற்கொண்ட தாக்குதல்களின் போது உயிர் தப்புவதற்காக மரங்களில் ஏறி ஒளிந்திருந்த பல புலிகள் இயக்கத்தினரைப் பின்னர் கருணா குழுவினர் கைது செய்துள்ளனர்.

இதேவேளை, கடந்த 13 ஆம் திகதி கருணா குழுவினருக்குக் கிடைத்த உளவுத் தகவல்களுக்கேற்ப, அரச படையினர் அடிக்கடி வாகரையில் மேற்கொண்டு வந்த தீவிர தாக்குதல்கள் காரணமாக புலிகள் இயக்கத்தினர் மியான்குளம் பகுதியிலிருந்து தொப்பிகல பகுதிக்கு வந்துகொண்டிருப்பதாக அறிந்து கொண்டனர்.
இவ்வாறு மியான்குளத்திலிருந்து வந்து கொண்டிருந்த புலிகள் இயக்கத்தினர் மட்டக்களப்பு- பொலனறுவை வீதி ஊடாகவே கடந்து தொப்பிகலவுக்குச் செல்ல வேண்டும். எனவே, குறித்த உளவுத் தகவல்களைத் தொடர்ந்து கருணா குழுவினர் புலிகள் மீது தாக்குதலைத் தொடுப்பதற்காக மட்டக்களப்பு - பொலன்னறுவ பிரதான வீதியில் 117 ஆம், 118 ஆம் மைல் கல் பகுதிகளுக்கிடையே தயாராக நின்றனர். அன்று இரவு சுமார் 8.45 க்கும் 9 மணிக்கு இடையேயுள்ள வேளை அந்தப் பிரதேசமே நிசப்தமாக இருந்தது. பாரிய மரங்கள், கட்டடங்கள் இல்லாத அந்த வீதியில் சிறிய மரங்களும் புல்லுப் பற்றைகளும் மட்டுமே இருந்தன.
புலிகள் இயக்கப் பயங்கரவாதிகள் அந்த வீதியில் வந்து கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். அவர்களில் சுமார் 150 பயங்கரவாதிகள் இருந்தனர். கருணா குழுவினர் உடனடியாக அவர்கள் மீது அதிரடியாக கடுமையான சூட்டுத் தாக்குதல்களைத் தீவிரமாகத் தொடுத்தனர். இவ்வாறு கருணா குழுவினர் தாக்கிய வேளையில் புலிகள் இயக்கத்தினருடன் இராணுவ வீரர் ரத்நாயக்கவும் இருந்தார். அவர் கைகள் கட்டப்பட்ட நிலையில் கூட்டி வரப்பட்டிருந்தார். அவருடைய திசையிலும் கருணா குழுவினர் தீவிரமான சூட்டுத் தாக்குதலை நடத்திய போது, ரத்நாயக்க உடனடியாக "நான் இராணுவ ஆள் சுட வேண்டாம்" என்று பலமாகக் கத்தினார். தாக்குதல்களின் மத்தியில் அதைக் கேட்டு உடனே எச்சரிக்கையடைந்த கருணா குழுவினர், ரத்நாயக்கவை இராணுவ வீரர் என அடையாளம் கண்டு உடனே அவரைத் தமது பொறுப்பில் எடுத்துக் கொண்டனர். ஆயினும் இந்த வேளையில் ரத்நாயக்க கடும் காயங்களுக்குள்ளாகியிருந்தார். இதன் காரணமாகவே அவரை கருணா குழுவினர் மாங்கேணி இராணுவ முகாமில் ஒப்படைக்க நடவடிக்கை எடுத்தனர். இவ்வாறு இராணுவத்திடம் ஒப்படைக்கப்பட்ட ரத்நாயக்க பின்னர் பொலன்னறுவ வைத்தியசாலையில் சேர்க்கப்பட்டார்.
இவ்வாறு கருணா குழுவினர் மேற்கொண்ட தாக்குதல்களின் போது கொல்லப்பட்ட ஏழு புலிகள் இயக்கத்தினரது சடலங்களையும் கருணா குழுவினர் பொலன்னறுவ வைத்தியசாலையில் ஒப்படைத்துள்ளனர். இந்தத் தாக்குதல்களில் புலிகள் இயக்கத்தினரிடமிருந்து ரீ.56 ரக துப்பாக்கிகள் உட்பட பெருந்தொகையான ஆயுதங்களை கருணா குழுவினர் கைப்பற்றியுள்ளனர்.
மேலும், இத் தாக்குதல்களின் போது புலிகள் இயக்கத்தினர் வாகரை தமிழ் மகா வித்தியாலயத்திலிருந்து மல்ரி பரல், பீரங்கிகளைப் பயன்படுத்தித் தாக்குதல் நடத்தியுள்ளதாகவும் கருணா குழுவினர் தெரிவித்துள்ளனர். இவ்வாறு கடந்த 13 ஆம் திகதி கருணா குழுவினர் மேற்கொண்ட தாக்குதல்களின் போது உயிர் தப்புவதற்காக மரங்களில் ஏறி ஒளிந்திருந்த பல புலிகள் இயக்கத்தினரைப் பின்னர் கருணா குழுவினர் கைது செய்துள்ளனர்.

The papal representative's 24-hour visit, for the sole purpose of solidarity, was made possible by the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees agency, which allowed him to take a charter flight of the organization.
AsiaNews reported the prelate's impressions on his return from Jaffna, where the civilian population faces a grave humanitarian crisis, trapped and isolated in the cross fire of the army and the Tamil Tiger separatist guerrillas.
Archbishop Zenari, the nuncio, said that he still believes the country will regain peace and serenity after witnessing the devastation of the 2004 tsunami, the murder of a Catholic politician in the Batticaloa cathedral, and the resumption of civil war in the northeast.
"The heart of the problem is that radical change is needed, a conversion of hearts of all those concerned in this painful conflict, including us Christians," the nuncio said.

On arrival in Jaffna, Archbishop Zenari met with Bishop Thomas Savundranayagam and some priests of the diocese, who explained the tragic situation of the population.
During his visit, the nuncio met with the wife of layman Wenceslaus Vimalathas, 40, a father of five, who disappeared in August near a military checkpoint in Allapiddy, together with a Catholic priest, Father Jim Brown.
Archbishop Zenari informed the Pope about these two disappearances when he was in Rome last September.
"The Pontiff expressed alarm at the news and when he heard about the numerous other cases of human rights violations in Sri Lanka," said the nuncio. He and Bishop Savundaranayagam are urging the government to shed light on Father Brown's case.

The current phase of Sri Lanka's ethnic conflict is marked by clearly discernible changes in the terms of engagement at both the domestic and international levels. In the post-Balasingham phase, the LTTE will find it more difficult to explain away its actions to the international community.
THE DEATH of Anton S. Balasingham — the public face of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam — applies formal closure to one phase of the separatist group's engagement with Sri Lankan governments and the international community. Balasingham's passing is, in its own way, an epilogue to a phase that was ended by the LTTE when it pulled out from negotiations with the Ranil Wickremesinghe Government in 2003.
Balasingham's death is also a moment to recapture the trajectory the Sri Lankan separatist conflict has taken. More particularly, his importance was in the publicly stated political path trodden by the LTTE and his attempts to provide it the space needed for international acceptance and domestic political engagement.
Balasingham's longevity with the LTTE was marked by certain characteristics. First, and most importantly, he knew where he stood in the scheme of things. He knew the nuts and bolts decisions — military aggressions punctuated by calls for truce — were beyond his call. His moments, it was evident to both the international community and the Sri Lankan state, came when the LTTE's military machine needed to pause for a lap of negotiations. "Bala's life is extremely crucial," a former Sri Lankan military chief confided during the late 1990s when Operation Jayasikuru — the Sri Lankan state's futile attempt to bisect rebel-held Vanni — was in its final days. "Without him, where is the chance for negotiations?"
It was this critical link he provided for negotiating with the essentially militarist LTTE that gave him a certain licence to put a gloss over many an incident. For instance, when an LTTE naval craft was sunk off the northern Sri Lankan waters during the negotiations with the Ranil Wickremesinghe government, Balasingham's explanation was that it was a "fishing vessel." Never mind the fact that an anti-aircraft gun was being ferried in the same vessel!
The second attribute of Balasingham was his skill in communicating to the international community the raison d'etre for the Tamil separatist movement, more particularly the role of the LTTE in the "fight for a Tamil homeland." His long spells interacting with the LTTE's leadership variously and often simultaneously as "spokesman," "advisor," "ideologue," and "chief negotiator" gave him the means to sell what was becoming a largely un-sellable proposition. This was particularly so after the pull-out of the Indian Peacekeeping Force and the subsequent assassination of Rajiv Gandhi.
As one who knew India's critical role in the resolution of the Sri Lankan conflict, Balasingham came up with this opening gambit when the mood for negotiations was set in 2000 — he pushed for India as a possible venue. He knew it was mission impossible, but he set about it in earnest, citing his failing health and the need to hold consultations with the LTTE leadership (which would be facilitated by the geographical proximity between India and the rebel-held parts of Sri Lanka). Although the LTTE made no headway in this effort to claw its way back into New Delhi's good books, this was Balasingham's effort at political correctness.
It was this ability to make politically right-sounding noises that gave Balasingham his raison d'etre within an essentially militarist LTTE. This was the singular attribute that would mark his ascent and subsequent fading from the centre stage of LTTE politics.
A third attribute of Balasingham was the one that gave him and the LTTE the most leverage. Media-savvy Balasingham, once a journalist and subsequently an official in the British High Commission in Colombo, knew the right time to come up with a clever sound-byte. An added strength was the spontaneity and ease with which he would interact with the media even under the most trying circumstances. Barring moments during Prabakaran's April 2002 press conference in the Vanni when he chided Indian journalists who tenaciously pressed for answers on the Rajiv Gandhi assassination, Balasingham's judgment of the importance of trying to keep the media on his side never abandoned him. This he would do with carefully articulated positions and lending a rather personal touch to his answers.
As chief negotiator at an impromptu press conference during the Thailand talks, he replied to a question on the fate of a crucial sub-committee on de-escalation and normalisation by asserting that it had failed. When pressed with a supplementary question about the Government's version being different, Balasingham, tired and in failing health, turned, looked into the journalist's eye, and said in a softened tone: "we have to say the truth no." His comment caused a furore at the negotiations. When talks collapsed with the LTTE's unilateral pull-out in March 2003, Balasingham blamed "excessive internationalisation" of the peace process, chided the international community's continued classification of the LTTE as a "terrorist organisation," and said it was "suspending" negotiations.
Within the LTTE's scheme of things, however, Balasingham's political decline became apparent from early 2003. At Oslo on December 5, 2002, Balasingham and his government counterpart, G.L. Peiris, agreed that the LTTE and the Sri Lankan government would explore solutions within a federal model. According to an official statement issued by the Norwegian government: "Responding to a proposal by the leadership of the LTTE, the parties agreed to explore a solution founded on the principle of internal self-determination in areas of historical habitation of the Tamil-speaking peoples, based on a federal structure within a united Sri Lanka." This was unpopular with hardliners on both sides of the ethnic divide, more so to Tamil hardliners who felt the chief negotiator had "given up" separation as an option and "compromised."
The post-2003 phase was also marked by the eclipse of London-based Balasingham by the Kilinochchi-based political wing. The LTTE, it seemed, had started preparing for a "post-Balasingham" phase of political and international engagement. Nonetheless, he was not officially sidelined or rendered non-est. The trajectory of the LTTE's endgame, particularly after October 2003 when it submitted its proposal for an Interim Self-Governing Authority (ISGA), had led to his political eclipse. This endgame, if any more evidence than the ongoing blood letting in Sri Lanka is needed, is to continue along the separatist path, unmindful of what the international community says or expects.
The last three years have provided plenty of indications of what the post-Balasingham phase would be — one marked by political intransigence and calculated nonchalance.

More than 20,000 Tamil refugees enter government-controlled area in eastern Sri Lanka
Dec 19 (AP) RIDITENNE, Sri Lanka- At least 20,000 Tamil civilians have crossed into government-controlled areas in eastern Sri Lanka after being driven out by heavy fighting in rebel territory, the military said Tuesday.

Dec 19 (AP) RIDITENNE, Sri Lanka- At least 20,000 Tamil civilians have crossed into government-controlled areas in eastern Sri Lanka after being driven out by heavy fighting in rebel territory, the military said Tuesday.

நமீ 'செல்'லைக் கவ்விய காக்கா!
நமீதா ரொம்ப சோகமாக உள்ளார். எல்லாம் ஒரு காக்காவால் வந்த வினைதான்.
சூரத் சுந்தரி நமீதா நுங்கம்பாக்கத்தில் வீடு எடுத்துத் தங்கி கலைச் சேவை செய்து வருகிறார். நமீதா மட்டும் இங்கே தனியாக இருக்கிறார் (துணைக்கு தோஸ்து பரத் கபூரும் இருக்கிறார்!). தனது குடும்பத்தினரைப் பார்க்க அவ்வப்போது சொந்த ஊரான சூரத்துக்கு போய் வருவது நமீயின் வழக்கம்.
இந்த முறை நமீயின் அண்ணன் தனது குடும்பத்தோடு தங்கச்சியைப் பார்க்க சென்னைக்கு வந்துள்ளார். நமீதாவின் அண்ணனுக்கு யாஷி என்ற 1 வயது மகள் உள்ளார்.
மருமகளைத் தூக்கிக் கொஞ்சிய அத்தை நமீதா, அவளைக் கூட்டிக் கொண்டு வீட்டுக்கு வெளியே வந்தார். அங்கு நிறுத்தப்பட்டிருந்த காரின் மீது குட்டிப் பாப்பாவை அமர்த்தி பிஸ்கட் ஊட்டியுள்ளார்.
அப்போது கையில் இருந்த மொபைல் போனை கார் மீது வைத்து விட்டு பிஸ்கட் ஊட்டிக் கொண்டிருந்தார். அந்த சமயம் நமீதாவைச் சுற்றி ஏராளமான காக்கைகள் கூடி விட்டன. என்னடா இது நம்மைச் சுற்றி இத்தனை காக்காக்கள் என்று நமீதாக்கா குழம்பியுள்ளார்.
அப்புறம்தான் தெரிந்தது கையில் இருந்த பிஸ்கட்தான் காக்கைகளை ஈர்த்தது என்று. பிஸ்கட்டுகளைப் பார்த்து கத்தியவண்ணம் இருந்த காகங்கள், கார் மீது நமீதா வைத்திருந்த அவரது குட்டி செல்போனைப் பார்த்து அதை நோக்கிப் பறந்து வந்தன.
கண் இமைக்கும் நேரத்தில் அந்த செல்போனைக் கவ்விக் கொண்டு ஒரு காக்கா பறந்து விட்டதாம். காக்கா தனது செல்போனை தூக்கிச் சென்றதைப் பார்த்து அதிர்ச்சி அடைந்து போன நமீதா, அதைப் பறிக்க முயன்றாராம். காக்காவா, கொக்கா? நமீயின் முயற்சி பலனளிக்கவில்லை.
இதையடுத்து வீட்டுக்குள் போய் பாப்பாவை விட்டு விட்டு காரை எடுத்துக் கொண்டு அக்கம் பக்கம் போய் செல்போன் எங்காவது கிடக்கிறதா என்று பார்த்துள்ளார். ஆனால் கண்ணுக்கு எட்டிய தூரம் வரை செல்போனைக் காணவில்லை.
காரும், கவலையுமாக நமீதா வந்ததைப் பார்த்து அந்தப் பகுதியினர் நமீதாவை வேடிக்கை பார்த்ததுதான் மிச்சம். இதனால் சோகமாக வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்பினார் நமீதா. வந்தவுடன் தனது செல்லுக்கு போன் செய்து பார்த்தார். வெறும் ரிங் டோன் மட்டுமே சென்றது. போனை யாரும் எடுக்கவில்லை.
இதையடுத்து செல்போன் நிறுவனத்துக்குப் போன் செய்து நம்பரை முடக்கச் செய்தாராம். செல்போன் பறிபோனதால் நமீதா ரொம்பக் கவலையாகி விட்டாராம். காரணம், அதில் பல முக்கியமானவர்களின் எண்கள் உள்ளதாம். தயாரிப்பாளர்கள் எல்லோரும் இந்த எண்ணில்தான் தொடர்பு கொள்வார்களாம்.
எனக்கு ரொம்ப ராசியான நம்பருங்க இது. முக்கியமான பல எண்களை இதில்தான் வைத்திருந்தேன். இப்படி காக்கா தூக்கிப் போய் விட்டது வருத்தமாக இருக்கிறது என்று புலம்புகிறார் நமீதா.
நமீதாவுக்கு இப்போதெல்லாம் காக்கா கத்துவதைக் கேட்டால் கூட செல்போன் ரிங் டோன் போலவே கேட்கிறதாம்!

நடிகை சோனியா அகர்வால், இயக்குநர் செல்வராகவன் திருமணம் தமிழ் முறைப்படி நடந்து முடிந்தது.
காதல் கொண்டேன் படத்தின் நாயகியான சோனியா அகர்வாலும், அப்படத்தை இயக்கிய செல்வராகவனும் சத்தம் போடாமல் காதலித்து வந்தனர். காதலை முதலில் சோனியாதான் ஓப்பன் செய்தார். ஆனால் அதை ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளாமலேயே அவருடன் நீண்ட நாட்கள் பழகி வந்தார் செல்வா.
ஒருவழியாக செல்வா காதலுக்கும், கல்யாணத்துக்கும் தலையாட்ட உடனடியாக திருமண தேதியை நிச்சயித்தனர். அதன்படி இன்று இவர்களது கல்யாணம் சென்னை ராஜா முத்தையா மண்டபத்தில் நடந்தது.

With the grief of losing their young son still fresh, the family of a boy who drowned in a partially frozen Scarborough pond is also facing the prospect of being deported from Canada.
Brunthan Nadarajah, 11, died while trying to save a friend who had plunged through thin ice 10 metres from shore.
Kishoban Alakeswaran, 15, is in critical condition at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children.
While the family -- which includes two other sons and two daughters -- copes with their tragic loss, they are also worried about their future in Canada.
"We still don't have status," father Muralidaran Nadarajah told The Globe and Mail.
The family is currently fighting a deportation order in federal court that would send them back to Sri Lanka.
Nadarajah has been in Canada since the late 1990s. The family's refugee claim has been rejected, The Globe reported.
Now they are trying to cope with the loss of Brunthan while at the same time feeling proud about the young boy's final act of heroism.
At about 3:15 p.m. Sunday both boys were on their way to a pick-up soccer game. The frozen pond was a popular short-cut to the soccer pitch.
The older boy plunged through the thin ice that covered the pond. The younger boy tried to pull his friend from the water, only to break through himself.
"He was the only person who went and tried to rescue him," Brunthan's father said Monday.
"I miss him so much. We miss him so much."
After an agonizing search, rescuers managed to pull both boys from the icy water and rush them to hospital.
Brunthan did not survive. Paramedics managed to revive Alakeswaran, who is clinging to life at the Hospital for Sick Children.
