Dec 05, Colombo:
Sri Lanka's Minister of Health Nimal Siripala de Silva says that 90% of Sri Lankan women patients who are HIV positive caught the disease from their husbands.
The Minister, addressing a seminar in Colombo, said Sri Lanka has 815 HIV positive cases and 233 out of them have become AIDS patients. Sixty percent of them are males.
Many health officials believe that the actual figures of HIV positive cases could be larger than the recorded number as some patients prefer not to go to hospitals since they have to face pressures from society.
