Keep out of PTA! - Govt. warns SLMM

[08th December 2006 - 05:00 S.L.T)

The Government rejected the SLMM’s request for a clarification regarding the re-imposition of PTA.

“SLMM has no right to ask for clarification regarding action taken by the Government to defeat terrorism. Who do they think they are to ask for clarification regarding these laws? We are not bound to answer them. The request by SLMM was rejected,” said Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, spokesman for Media Centre for National Security.

According to clause 1.2 of CFA search operations and arrests are prohibited the new laws to PTA would repeal that clause said the Minister.

“When terrorism has intensified we have no need to take advice from a foreign committee. We are not prepared to do what they say,” added Minister Rambukwella.

He said the new laws to PTA have been introduced in accordance with the UN anti-terrorist laws of 2001.

The Government warned the head of SLMM to keep away from intervening in PTA.
